My name is Lee Ann Urban; I am the Founder of “UrbanWind” Fitness Coaching (www.urbanwind.com) in Austin, Texas and have been involved in the Fitness Industry for the last 21 years. My background includes training and competing in the sport of competitive body building (5 years and became a student of “Vandry Brazilian Jiu Jitsu” (BJJ) in January 2008. My Web site articles will include all aspects of fitness and how I see fitness relating to BJJ.
Recently I started a training program that includes TRX training; this form of functional fitness is ideal for what we need on the mat. This type of training requires all muscles to work together simultaneously in order to perform; therefore, it is perfect for the flow of BJJ
While muscle and power will certainly serve you on the mat, the TRX brings another exciting element to your training while promoting long, lean muscle. This device is lightweight, compact, can travel anywhere you go, and attaches to any supported beam or tree. You use only your body weight as resistance and the training is intense!
At this point, I tend to think that TRX training cannot completely replace my lifting weights; however, from personal experience I believe this type of training is very important to BJJ.
Driving home from my first TRX workout, I could feel the muscles in my entire shoulder girdle had been aligned; the tweaks and aches that are so common in BJJ were gone. I could “feel” where they used to be but the muscle felt strong and balanced in those areas and that the energy was actually flowing through those areas and no longer blocked—it was so awesome!!
I strongly encourage you to try this at least once!!
Below I’ve included a link to the TRX Website along with a couple of tips.
Here is the Web site link, http://www.trxpropack.us/about
And here are the tips.
This training system is ideal for all fitness levels as each move can be modified to meets your needs.
For those of you who train with me here in Austin, I will let you know when my TRX arrives, it will travel with me and I’d love to give you a couple of moves just to see how it feels!!
Train hard! Train smart!!

I like LeeAnn's point about
I like LeeAnn's point about fitting it to your needs. There is no such thing as one size fits all, and all workouts rest, recovery have always needed to be for the person.

LeeAnn knows her stuff!
Interesting
Great stuff as always Lee Ann, now if I would only make a little spare time away from everything else to hit the gym! I've been missing it, but I always seem to have to choose between the mats or the gym - mats always win!
