1. What does the Vandry Jiu-jitsu academy teach?

We instruct a detailed course in the art of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.  Professor William Vandry is a 3rd degree Black belt under Master Carlos Machado, nephew of Carlos Gracie, the founder and creator of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.  Professor Vandry has trained for 15 years in BJJ, and has a full curriculum, course, outline and belt ranking procedure that is based upon education, training and knowledge of the art and philosophy.  Vandry is the longest teaching RCJ Machado Jiu-jitsu representative in the world, and is the highest ranked BJJ black belt in Central Texas, and one of the five top Black belts in Texas.  The academy also has a safe training environment, for the layman or experienced martial artist.  Respect and tolerance is a chief trademark of the Vandry academy and all Vandry associated schools in Texas.

2. What makes the Vandry Jiu-jitsu academy unique?

With the popularity of BJJ and MMA, many training groups promote fighting, tough guy antics or areas that depend simply on sparring and not enough technique.  The Vandry academy has a balance.  Technique, pace, development and sparring form together.  William Vandry would rather have a student training safe for 100 years than train hard and become injured.  We also stand different in the sense that we have a community of martial artists that are very close knit with students, respect, and our Vandry BJJ cousin schools across Texas.  VBJJ also notes that many people can state their own philosophies, but what is the person’s credibility?  Mr. Vandry is the highest ranked Black belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu in Central Texas.  Vandry is recognized worldwide through his instructor’s certification, namely Master Carlos Machado and his brothers Rigan, John, Roger and Jean Jacques.

3.  What courses are taught at the Vandry Jiu-jitsu academy?

We have a full course outline in the art of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu for children and adults.  We also have no gi, Thai boxing and Judo classes.  All of courses are taught by certified instructors that have more training, experience and process of dealing with students among the top schools in Texas.

4. What are the Vandry Jiu-jitsu academy’s goals for students?

This usually depends on the student.  If a student needs to improve their health, training is a positive area.  Tournament competition may be another goal which will also possible with proper training, but also a humble training approach.  MMA is a competitive field, which is a longer training time, and the goals of the student.  Overall, health, mental, physical and emotional maturity is a part of the results training at the Vandry academy.  A Martial artist is not a ‘tough guy’; a Martial artist is a technician, fighter, philosopher, community supporter, scientist and a student.

5. What type of student is typically attracted to our school?

We have walks from all kinds.  We have blue-collar, white-collar workers, yet the respect at the academy has no bearing on a person’s education or career, simply a respect as a Martial artist.  We have Dads, Moms, businesspeople, pro fighters and all types that bond.

6.  I'm not in good shape. Do I need to be to begin your program?

Absolutely not.  To go to college, you don’t know the subjects or are prepared for the degrees until you graduate.  Conditioning, stretching, flexibility, techniques, confidence and training will come from the academy.

7. What benefits can I gain?

Conditioning to improve health, lower stress, increased confidence.  Leaning an art from a physical, scientific, philosophical, and understanding the development of being a martial artist. We also pass along the lineage and history of the Jiu-jitsu system developed from the Japanese to Jigoro Kano’s development of Judo, to Count Koma, who developed the no rules challenges to the great founder of the Brazilian style Grandmaster Carlos Gracie, to his nephews, the Machado brothers, to Professor William Vandry teaching today.  Understanding your art, and lineage should always be a constant education in the martial arts.

8. Why do you offer this specialized training and other schools cannot?

The Head Instructor and director of the William Vandry Jiu-jitsu Association, Professor William Vandry, is a direct student of Master Carlos Machado, nephew of the founder of the Brazilian style form of Jiu-jitsu, Gracie Jiu-jitsu.  Vandry was the first association in Texas, and has been the longest RCJ Machado association in the world under the Machado brothers, and also has more association schools in Texas than any other Jiu-jitsu organization.  Vandry also details learning, technique, humility and becoming a better martial artist.

9. What is the cost of tuition?

While we will give this information over the phone or e-mail, we prefer to meet the prospective student and show them our programs in person.  We prefer to talk face to face to shake a hand with a new student or child to develop a community relationship and atmosphere.  We are scientists, martial artists, educators, and developers of community.  Every student is a student we know by name and have the utmost care and concern to develop and grow.  We have different programs, and we suggest for detail to stop by the academy for a few minutes to review ultimately what program is best for you.
